Cowes Heritage went back to school for a School Days exhibition that examined how schooling had evolved in the Cowes area over the centuries.
One of the first recorded Cowes schools was established by Martha Arnold in Birmingham Road in 1785. It was her son, William, who was later to become the famous pioneering headmaster of Rugby School. The displays included many photographs of other schools no longer in existence, such as those in Cross Street, York Street and Denmark Road.
A DVD made in conjunction with the exhibition included interviews with two former Cowes school pupils, award-winning broadcaster Cliff Michelmore, and Mark King of the Level 42 pop group; it is available at various Isle of Wight retail outlets and also through Shop on this web site.
